ABOUT ME

Hello! I’m Sophie Jo and I write Young Adult (YA) fiction. I live in Coventry with my fiancé and a shy but kooky calico cat named Moochi.

In 2020, I was picked from more than 1,600 entrants and invited to be part of the Madeleine Milburn Literary, TV & Film Agency’s very first mentorship scheme. Lots of learning, lots of writing, lots of group-WhatsApping with the five fellow mentees who’ve become my pals for life — the best opportunity I’ve ever been given. My first YA novel, THE NICEST GIRL, is out now.

I’m passionate about making sure teens know the difference between healthy love and straight-up-horrible-times-disguised-as-love. Through my work with domestic violence charity Women’s Aid, I’ve spread the word via the Sunday Times, Cosmopolitan, BBC Woman’s Hour and Avon. I also supported the Women’s Aid media team with the construction of its Love Respect website, designed to help teen girls recognise abuse.

I am a long-time fan of Disneyland and that is why the majority of my tweets have something to do with MISSING MICKEY MOUSE or WONDERING WHY I AM NOT ON THE HAUNTED MANSION RIGHT NOW. It’s a very specific and much-maligned hobby but it’s the life I chose. Am also very keen on overanalysing cult ’00s teen TV show The O.C. and eating that Cadbury Marvellous Creations chocolate with the chewy bits in. That’s probably all you need to know.
